Football is back

Weirton Daily Times

The weekends of late summer and fall are special for residents of the Tri-State Area.

They mean that high school football, with all its pageantry and tradition, is back.

Local teams return to action this week, with a doubleheader on tap at Harding Stadium Thursday. Steubenville Big Red will take on Youngstown Woodrow Wilson at 6 p.m., while Edison will take on Oak Glen at approximately 8:30 p.m .

Fans know that this week would not be complete with the publication of our annual football edition. This year's preview, titled Back to Work, will be included in Wednesday's edition. As always, it will offer a comprehensive look at all of our local teams, including rosters and schedules. This year's edition will feature full-color photographs on every page. It's a must-read for all area football fans.

Those who just can't wait for Wednesday will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the football edition Tuesday, when we hold our annual community tailgate party. Those who attend the event, which will be held in Herald Square Park at 401 Herald Square in Steubenville, will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the football edition and enjoy a hot dog, a drink and a bag of chips for $3. Proceeds from the event will benefit the literacy programs at the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.

The event, which will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., also will feature performances by the Big Red pep band.

Our annual high school football preview is just a start, however.

A separate preview section examining professional and college football will be included in our Sept. 1 editions.

Football is back. We hope you will make plans to join us Tuesday and get ready for the season.
