To the editor:
On Aug. 14 my 17-year-old dog Jewel decided it was time to make a run for the great outdoors near St. John Arena. She had never run off before. She was always on her leash or indoors.
I was frantically looking for her. Within a few hours my family, friends and the entire neighborhood were searching for her.
We notified all the agencies, law enforcement, those delivering mail in our area and local merchants to name a few. We drove miles and walked miles looking for her.
On Day 2 we put posters up. A passerby saw her picture and remembered seeing her on John Scott extension up on the wall of rocks. Finally we had a lead, but she wasn't there.
We were close to stopping the search for the day and a friend decided to go and look on John Scott extension one more time. There she was. Resting on the rocks by the waterfall.
My husband was able to carry her safely up the hill and finally home.
I want to thank all my family, friends and the neighborhood for searching for her and praying for her safe return. I especially want to thank the gentlemen who gave us the lead. I never thought I would see her again.
Our prayers were answered.
