Edison defeats Monarchs

RICHMOND - The Edison boys soccer team moved to 2-0 with a 3-1 victory over visiting John Marshall Saturday.

Zac Sansone totaled a pair of goals and Alec Jones added one for the Wildcats, who visit Steubenville Big Red Tuesday. Jones, Tyler Kirk and J.D. Howell had assists.

Travis Bell had one save for Edison.

Austin Litman scored for John Marshall.

Golden Bears 5, Royals 0

BLOOMINGDALE - The Oak Glen boys soccer team is 4-0 after Saturday's 5-0 victory over Jefferson County Christian at Wayne Elementary School.

Joe Doughty scored three times with assists from Eric Oliver, Nate Bennett, Justin Bailey and Addison Sayre. Bailey found the back of the net from Devin Polen and Oliver scored off a pass from Doughty.

Nick Fryer had six saves for the Golden Bears.

Senior Bo Johnson finished with 15 saves for the Royals (0-2).

Oak Glen takes on Wheeling Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home.

Polar Bears 5, Red Riders 1

WEIRTON - The Fairmont Senior and Weir High boys soccer teams both moved to 2-1 after the Polar Bears earned a 5-1 victory Saturday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

Alec Wadsworth scored twice and Justin Sloan, Brent Pacoe and Logan Demyon once for Fairmont Senior. Wadsworth had two assists and Andrew Strand and Sloan one each. Matt Bargrus had 11 saves.

Shane Davis scored Weir's goal off an assist from Ryan Kirk. Mett Tenaglio also finished with 11 saves.

Bobcats 6, Redskins 3

MINGO JUNCTION - The Indian Creek boys soccer team dropped a 6-3 decision to visiting Cambridge Saturday at Muth Field.

Seth Warden and Juwaun Singer scored twice for the Bobcats while Connor Engstrom and Cody Engstrom each had a goal. Tony Carpenetti had five saves.

Indian Creek's goals came from Anthony Young, Ian Gamble and Paul Stephen.

Matthew Barker finished with 12 saves.

The Redskins visit John Marshall Tuesday.

Big Red 1, Bobcats 0

STEUBENVILLE - For the second game in a row, Allie Zimish scored the only goal as the Big Red soccer team earned a 1-0 victory, this time over Cambridge Saturday at Harding Stadium.

Zimish's score came with 2:15 left in the game. Hannah Masloski took the ball down the left side of the field, passed it to Laynee Andres, who found Zimish, who found the back of the net.

Big Red's Loren Gray has seven saves and Cambridge's Liz Mitchell had 20.

Steubenville controlled play most of the second half after most of the first half was played in the midfield.

"We got this goal because our girls never gave up and they pushed themselves the entire game," said Big Red coach Brittany Falbo. "I am just so proud of the way the girls have been playing this year and I am so happy to see their hard work paying off with a couple of W's to start the season.

"We play Wheeling Central on Wednesday and we just have to ride this momentum and keep rolling."

Red Devils 11, Golden Bears 2

NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen girls soccer team dropped its home opener on the new turf, 11-2, to visiting St. Clairsville on Saturday.

Gabi Lemley and Megan Collins scored for the Golden Bears and Alex Burch grabbed an assist. Casey Highfield totaled 11 saves and Erin Fields eight saves for Oak Glen.

Carley Gillespie scored four times for the Red Devils. Taryn Barr, Eberly Ferrell and Alyssa Lodi each scored twice and Madison Keehan added one. In goal, Brianna Sower had eight saves.

The Golden Bears host Edison at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader. The boys team follows against Wheeling Central.

Patriots 5, Red Riders 1

PARKERSBURG - The Weir High girls soccer team went on the road and dropped at 5-1 decision at Parkersburg South.

Alyssa Shingle scored the Red Riders goal unassisted. Nicole Pellegrino finished with four saves.

Kaitlyn Miller had the hat trick for the Patriots. Lexi Smith and Sydney Homan rounded out the scoring. Kristen Jones had four saves.

Weir High hosts Wheeling Park Thursday.
