WEIRTON - American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary held their monthly meeting Aug. 20 with President Shirley Brecht introducing special guests District President Tammy Workman and Past President Susan Wade and calling the meeting to order.
Workman and Wade recognized the auxiliary for meeting its monthly targets for membership and awarded the auxiliary a certificate of participation in the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, a Membership 2012 Challenge Courage Award and Meritorious Service Citation. The pair congratulated the auxiliary in meeting its yearly membership goal. Brecht received Certificate of Appreciation.
A letter written by Kristen Tuell about her experience as a Rhododendron Girl was read to the membership. In it Tuell thanked the auxiliary for providing her the ability to participate in a "once in a life-time" opportunity and expressed her admiration for the auxiliary in promoting women's ability to succeed.

Chaplain Wanda Perrone gave the invocation. She also sent get-well wishes to Joan Spano, Betty Chappell and Donna Gates.
The membership recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion.
Secretary Clara Robinson also read the July meeting minutes, which were approved as read. Treasurer Loretta Fabian gave the financial report, which was approved as read and filed for audit.
Vice President Gloria Jerrel received a new membership from Pat Folden, Post 10 Commander Vic Folden's wife. Historian Joan Spano brought albums for members to view, and Publicity Chair Marcy Spano took photos.
The annual picnic, held Aug. 18 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds, was deemed a success.
The group donated $50 to the Mary H. Weir Public Library to support children's hour.
The auxiliary will host a veteran's dinner in October, and Joan Spano will be sending Christmas Cards to Tri-State Area veterans.
Workman gave a short presentation on Bonnie's Bus, a mobile mammography unit, and Brecht gave a presentation on past events the auxiliary held for the community.
Wade won the 50/50 drawing.
The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Legion hall on Pennsylvania Avenue.
