Madonna victorious in quad-match

WEIRTON - Teammates Michael Rogers and Thomas Gianni shared medalist honors Wednesday as the Weirton Madonna golf team shot 166 to defeat Edison (191), Buckeye Local (195) and Steubenville (200) at Williams Country Club.

Rogers and Gianni shot 41s and teammates Alex Colantonio, Nicklas Mazur and Matthew Lyons were right behind them with 42s for the Dons.

Dylan Jones led Edison with a 45. Adam Ryan shot 47, Jimmy Marsh 48 and Preston Collins and Ben Boyd each had a 51.

ON THE TEE — Madonna’s Michael Rogers hits a tee shots on the 17th hole at Williams Country Club Wednesday in a quad-match with host Madonna. The Blue Dons shot 168 for the victory. Rogers and teammate Thomas Gianni were co-medalists with 41s.

Clint Walker paced the Panthers with his 44. Kyle Sutphin shot 49, Ricky Sempkowski 50 and Bo Walker 52.

Jacob McKitrick's 46 was best for Big Red. Andrew O'Dell shot 49, Kasey Peterson 52 and Mason Heatherington 53.

Crusaders defeat Huskies

STEUBENVILLE - Freshman Austin Meronoff carded a 2-under 34 Wednesday at Steubenville Country Club as the Steubenville Catholic Central golf team topped Harrison Central, 162-185.

Mike Manfresca shot a 40, Jason Bensure a 41 and Nick Ivkovich a 47 for the Crusaders.

Austin Kowalski led the Huskies with a 39. Drew Horn added a 44, Evan Ossman a 50 and Bryce Walrath a 52.

Bears triump in tri-match

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen volleyball team began the season with a pair of wins Wednesday in a tri-match with Beaver Local and Weir High.

The Golden Bears earned a 25-9, 33-31 victory over the Beavers and a 25-10, 25-9 decision over the Red Riders.

Sydney Kell led the way with 58 sets, 17 assists, nine points and two aces. Vanessa Hissan added five points, eight kills and three blocks, while Morgan Poling had 19 points, 13 kills, eight blocks and seven digs and Lacee Porter four points and six kills.

Abby Tice delivered 12 points, 10 digs and three aces, Jessica Stivason 12 kills and seven blocks, Jessica Hutton six points, three kills and three blocks, Kaitlyn Smith 11 points and three digs, Carisa Williams 11 sets and five assists and Madin Juszczak one kill and one block.

Redskins stop Potters

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek volleyball team rallied to defeat visiting East Liverpool Wednesday 20-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-14. The Redskins are 3-0.

Junior setter Jessica Furda led the way with 26 assists, 13 digs, five blocks, four kills and four aces.

Ali Collaros added 10 digs and Mallorie Sullivan eight digs. Whitney Martin contributed 11 digs, six kills and three blocks, Brey Mays 21 digs, four kills and four aces, Bre Berryman 12 kills and seven blocks, Kiarra Kamarec eight kills, six blocks, three aces and two digs and Alexis Fithen five kills.

Huskies lose in three

CADIZ - The Harrison Central volleyball team dropped a 25-12, 25-13, 25-19 decision to visiting Martins Ferry Wednesday.

Janese Eckley led the Huskies with nine digs and three kills, while Marissa Bennett added two kills. Katie Stackhouse contributed seven digs.

Brooke falls in tri-match

WELLSBURG - The Brooke volleyball team dropped both contests in a tri-match Wednesday at home, falling to Tyler Consolidated 25-17, 25-15 and to Buckeye Local 17-25, 25-14, 25-23. The Panthers lost to the Silver Knights.

For the Bruins against Tyler Consolidated, Amber Isinghood had three kills; Samantha Mazzone eight assists and three digs; Brooke Murdock three kills, five assists and two aces; Angelo Staffileno six kills and five blocks; Emily Stuck five digs; and Kourtney Leonard three kills.

In the match against the Panthers, Mazzone totaled 11 assists, four aces and two digs; Murdock three kills and five assists; Isabella Preston four kills and three digs; Staffileno 10 kills, three aces and seven blocks; Stuck 11 digs; and Leonard two kills.

For the Panthers in the victory, Amy Balk contributed six aces and four kills; Kayla Fillipovich five kills and four blocks; Becca Rector 11 kills and 10 assists; Morgan Staten four kills and four assists; Morgan Fedorko two kills; Lexis Fedorko six assists; and Kierstyn Czuchran two kills.

Wheeling Central blanks Big Red

WHEELING - The Wheeling Central girls soccer team blanked visiting Steubenville Big Red, 4-0, Wednesday.

Loren Gray collected 11 saves for Steubenville (2-2).

Bailey Clark led the Maroon Knights offense offense with three goals and Beth Stayduhar had three assists.

Ashton Cross had a goal and an assist. Regan Blaha finished with three saves.
