August 31, 2012
Weirton Daily Times
The Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs of West Virginia received eighth place nationally in the Signature Project Fundraising Achievement Awards at the 120th General Federation of Women’s Clubs annual international convention in Milwaukee, Wis., for the Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Fund. The fund was established and designed to enable funding of domestic violence awareness and prevention events, programs and initiatives. One such program is the GFWC Success for Survivors Scholarship, which provides support for victims of domestic violence so they can rebuild their lives through personal development, education, increased self-sufficiency and independence. The scholarship is available to both full- and part-time students and six scholarships were awarded at the convention. Attending the convention were, from left, Jo-Ellen Wright, Weirton Woman’s Club 2010-2012 Signature Project chair; Rita Lynch, 2012-2010 state president; and Diane Pastoric, 2012-2014 Weirton Woman’s Club president. -- Contributed
