Bears host volleyball tourney

NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen volleyball team will host the VFW Invitational Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. today.

Oak Glen, Wheeling Park, Frankfort and Morgantown will be in one pool and Brooke, Weir High, Musselman and Parkersburg South in the other pool.

Bruins top Monarchs

WELLSBURG - The Brooke boys soccer team defeated visiting John Marshall 3-1 on Thursday.

Creek boosters to meet

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek Athletic Boosters will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the high school gym.

Football coach Andrew Conner will show game film at the meeting.

Blue Dons win thrice

WEIRTON - The Madonna volleyball team has begun the season 3-0- with victories over Conotton Valley (25-19, 25-14, 25-16), Clay-Battelle (26-28, 25-20, 25-22) and Clarksburg Notre Dame (25-8, 25-20).

In the second two victories, Katie Kramer had four digs, Nicolette Sellitti nine aces, seven kills and three blocks, Dylan Fenske 12 aces, 23 assists and seven digs, Maddie Burchill six aces and five digs, Emily Pietranton nine aces and three digs, Monica Bragg three aces and eight kills, Amanda Paul 11 digs, Gianna Anile one digs, Annie Magnone one kill, Chloe Conner one kill and Gabrielle Sellitti four aces.

Phenoms to hold tryouts

TOLTONSVILLE - The Steel Valley Phenoms U11 travel baseball team will hold a tryout at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Warren Township Field. The team will play the in Atlantic Coast League and will be playing in tournaments throughout the season. Players must be 11-or-under as of May 1, 2013.
