BOSSE, Sherwin P., age 87, passed away on Aug. 18, in Palm Desert, California.
The son of Harold and Sadye Bosse (who died during childbirth), Sherwin was born in St Louis, Missouri, and was raised by his grandparents in Steubenville, OH.
He was a 1943 graduate of Steubenville High School. After retiring, he moved to Palm Desert, California in 2002. As a young man, he was an avid tennis and basketball player. During World War II, he was a tail gunner in the 8th Army Air Corp. He was decorated for heroism with the Air Medal with Seven Oak Clusters, along with four bronze stars as well as other medals. After the war, he returned home to Steubenville, and worked for the U.S. Tool and Supply Company, a family owned industrial supply business. He later became co-president and co-owner.
He is survived by his wife, Selma, with whom he was married for 61 years, his sons Michael, Steven, and Jon, daughters-in-law Ifaat and Lili, and grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Ari, and Danielle. His incredible sense of humor and deep love for family will always be remembered. Funeral services were held on Aug. 21 at the Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memoriam be sent to the Operation Smile (operation smile.org) or the Jewish War Veterans SOS Program (jwv.org).
