Help spread the message

September 4, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

Drug use and addiction continues to be a problem in our area.

While law enforcement is constantly working to stop the spread of drugs in our communities, each of us can do our part as well by educating ourselves and our families on the effects of drug use and how addiction can affect our lives.

One such group working to help spread the message of the dangers of drug use and addiction is continuing its mission this weekend, and we hope the community turns out to show its support.

Never Alone will hold its annual event Saturday evening at the Weirton Event Center, with a variety of educational material, speakers and entertainment planned.

In previous years, Never Alone has held a walk down Main Street in an effort to educate the community on its work and the existence of drugs in our area. This year, the effort will be in the form of a community rally, with events to begin at 5 p.m. and including performances by local bands and dance schools, presentations by local emergency medical officials and much more.

This is an important message for our area and one we should all listen to.

Drug use can affect all of us in one way or another. It is not selective by age, gender, race, height, weight or anything else.

And it doesn't just affect the user.

We encourage our area residents to show up Saturday and show their support for this organization, and most importantly the community.

Drug use and addiction does exist here, it is not going away anytime soon, but the more we all educate ourselves the better a chance we have in combating this crisis.
