Three Score holds meeting

WEIRTON - Three Score Seniors met Aug. 23 at Undo's at the Holiday Inn - Weirton with President Barbara Purks opening the meeting with an invocation and leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance and "God Bless America."

Following dinner, Vice President Larry Purks introduced singer Paul Grant, who sang songs by Hank Williams, Elvis and Ronnie Milsap. Dennis Jones of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will provide next month's entertainment, showing a film about Weirton Steel Corp. during World War II.

Secretary Pat Deletka and Treasurer Joan Villa gave their reports, which were approved and filed for audit.

Tour Chair Regina Truax announced the following trips:

Oct. 10, American Bandstand at the Chadwick in Wexford, Pa.;

Oct. 14-20, Branson, Mo.; and

Nov. 12-16, Nashville, Tenn.

Membership Chair Josie Elliot introduced new members Lester Stuchemeyer and Bob and Mary Lou Deku. She also advised members to review their by-laws in order to stay in good standing.

Reservation Chair Vivian Weigel announced 141 members and Jackie Cox, Ada Barnhart's guest; Cindy Toth, Betty Mentzer's guest; and Rena Malson, John Geary's guest, were in attendance. She also gave September's menu.

Sunshine Chair Winnie Kemp sent get-well cards to Jim Hare, Gino Cercone, Jesse Lescallette, Ann Yuhas and Olive Sweeney. Patty Holt, Irene Troia, Phil Troia, Joan Pohlman, Mary Lou Deku and Iona McColloch celebrated August birthdays. Carl and Regina Truax, Bill and Jeanette Wetzel, Jon and Jeanette Merriwether and Bob and Mary Lou Deku celebrated anniversaries. Members sang "Happy Birthday" and "Happy Anniversary."

Barbara Purks requested volunteers for the Nominating Committee, and Chair Marlene Hare, Betty Virtue, Vivian Weigel, Jack Cummings and Joann Gorrell were appointed to the committee, which will give a report at the October meeting.

Hospitality Chair Jim Hare gave prizes to Marilyn Hinchee, Betty Mentzer, Mary Ann Tassey, Betty Morgan and Barbara Libengood. Nancy Smurda and Judy Gaynor received free dinners, compliments of Undo's. Bob Deku won a picnic basket. Dick Bailey, Dee LaRosa, Martha Garan and Santo Gubetti won watermelons. Jack Cummings awarded the 50/25/25 to Bob Deku and Marilyn Hinchee.

Barbara Purks reminded members the Sept. 27 meeting will have a sports theme, and gave the benediction.
