Historical Society to discuss
Medal of Honor recipient
ELDERSVILLE, Pa. - The Jefferson Township Historical Society will hold its September meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the White Church located at 11 Fire Road.
Jean Baltich will give a presentation on the book "A Marine Named Mitch," the autobiography of Col. Mitchell Paige, a Charleroi native, Eagle Scout and Medal of Honor recipient. The book was required reading for Marine Corps recruits at one point. Baltich's late husband, John Baltich, was Paige's cousin. She will show a video on Paige's Medal of Honor.
The public is welcome to attend. Refreshments will follow the program.

Trumpets celebrate anniversary

CampFire holding registration
WEIRTON - CampFire USA will have open registration for girls and boys in third through sixth grade and aged 4 to 6 and living in Brooke and Hancock counties at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the First United Methodist Church located on Lee Avenue.
The cost is $25 for a one-year membership.

Republicans to hold Reagan dinner
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Republican Executive Committee's annual Reagan Day dinner will be held from 4:30 p.m. 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the First Presbyterian Church located at 901 Charles St.
The informal "indoor picnic" will feature a buffet chicken dinner and the opportunity to meet a number of candidates for local and state offices.
Tickets are available for $10 from committee members and should be purchased by Sept. 26.

Spay/neuter clinic scheduled
WINTERSVILLE, Ohio - The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will hold a spay and neuter Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost clinic for cats and dogs Oct. 6-7 at the Jefferson County Airpark.
Immediate pre-payment is required. There will be no walk-in services or vaccinations available.
Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents. Any interested pet owner may make an appointment by calling (304) 374-4443.
