To the editor:
I am 15 and am of strong religious background. The Steubenville logo has me thinking recently.
What is the big deal for a cross, which more than 95 percent of people in the Ohio Valley admire, to be a part of the city logo. Look at how many churches are in downtown Steubenville. My great-great-grandparents came here from Italy in 1906, and the men of my family have worked in the mill until it shutdown a few years ago. Despite that, religion was a staple in the family.
Why should we cater to the needs of an atheist? Franciscan University of Steubenville is a star pillar of the valley's academic academies above high school. Churches are all over. Why cater to their needs? Just accept the emblem of our savior and move on. No one said you have to like it, but I'll be damned if I cannot showcase something that makes me and others feel great about life. Come on - I am 15 and see this useless debate over a cross. It represents faith here in the valley, our heritage and, most important, our values in this economically stricken area.
