Questions about convention coverage

September 9, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

I just found out that MSNBC and Fox News did not broadcast any minority speakers at the Republican National Convention. This is outrageous. There were many wonderful minority American speakers and they deserved to be heard. Was this done to introduce a bias that didn't exist? And if so, who is the racist? Another broadcaster had Al Gore as commentator - have they invited John McCain to comment on the Democratic National Convention? I doubt it.

Does this bother you? Do you need your news filtered through the liberal press? Are you not capable of seeing with your own eyes, hearing with your own ears and coming to your own conclusions? Are they so afraid of the truth that they need to suppress it with their slant, bias and interpretation? Are you aware that you are losing the liberty of a free press? It scares me, remembering the former Soviet Union and its propaganda voice - Pravda. The enslaved people of the Communist bloc looked to the west and Radio Free Europe, at grave risk, to get the truth. Where will we go? We are the west.

Did you watch the Olympics? Were you moved when our athletes stood on the platform and received their gold medals and proudly listened to our national anthem? Are we still the land of the free and the home of the brave? I was able to watch the convention on C-Span - no commentary, they let the convention speak for itself; no interpretation, they left that up to the individual viewer, and they broadcast the proceedings in their entirety. This is the way it should be.
