Lucille Piergallini

PIERGALLINI, Mrs. Lucille Rosalind Benardo, 76, of Smithfield, OH, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012, at her home amongst her family that she loved so much.

Lucille was born June 1, 1936 in Piney Fork, OH to the late Clarice and Fred (Tax) Benardo.

Lucille attended Piney Fork School and Smithfield High School where she was crowned Homecoming and May Queens.

Lucille was a charter member of the Piney Fork Presbyterian Church in 1950. She was a member of Piney Fork Missionary, a 4-H Advisor for 10 years, Smithfield Women's Club, Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women's Federation, Jefferson County Soil and Water Women, Italian American Culture Club and she was an avid bridge player.

Lucille's hobbies included the arts, ceramics, crafts, painting and she was a wonderful cook.

Lucille was a hard worker who managed the Blue Swan Restaurant and Custard Stand, the Country Market in Smithfield, served as office clerk at the family-run Carrollton Livestock Sale Barn, all while helping run the family farm and raising her family and caring for her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years of marriage, Raymond Piergallini; her sons, Larry (Carolyn) of Smithfield, Lewis "Doby" (Lori) of Bloomingdale, Tim (Lynda) of Smithfield, Dino (Diana) of Cadiz and Todd (Tina) of Rayland; her 17 grandchildren, Bianca Piergallini (Matt) Ianzito, Kassy Piergallini (Mark) Doughty, Joe, Jason, Austin, Nina, Cory, Greg, Mario, Nick, Jordan, Giovanni, Brooke, Marlee, Madeena, Brianna and Angelina; sisters Joannie Benardo Koch of Akron, Helen Benardo (Jay) Hopkins of Adena and Carol Benardo (Gary) Catlett of Follansbee; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law John Koch, Gilbert Piergallini and Charlie Rokos.

She was a woman of quiet dignity whose love shone brightly in her eyes whenever she spoke of her husband and family, of whom she was most proud.

The highlight of her twilight years was a visit to her family farm by President-elect Barack Obama.

Calling hours for Lucille will be held on the family farm at 1149 County Road 10 (Smithfield-Adena) Road. from 1-9 p.m. on Sunday, September 9.

Funeral services will be also be held at the family farm on Monday, September 10 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Wilford Simeral will officiate Lucille's service and burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield, OH.

Lucille's funeral arrangements are being handled by the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Smithfield, OH.
