NEW CUMBERLAND - The Woman's Club of New Cumberland, a General Federation of Woman's Clubs of West Virginia member, met Sept. 5 at the Swaney Memorial Library for their first meeting of 2012-2013.
President Dorothy Hawkes presided and welcomed members.
Patty Fisher read the inspiration, and Hawkes led members in the Pledge of Allegiance and reciting "A Collect for Club Women."
Hawkes distributed to all members present a list of the standing committees and community service programs indicating the chairs and their constituency.
In lieu of a program, Hawkes reiterated events from the summer conference held in Flatwoods. Pertinent information was given to various chairs, and upcoming events were discussed including the New Cumberland River Fest, GFWC-WV Northern District Style Show and Fall Convention, Hancock County Arts Council Holiday Tours, and the GFWC-WV Northern District Spring Workshop, which will be hosted by the Woman's Club of New Cumberland.
The club will be selling crepes and taking orders for flower bulbs at the River Fest.
Refreshments were provided and served by the executive board.
The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Swaney Memorial Library. Those wanting to learn more about the GFWC-WV Woman's Club are invited to attend.
