Wellsburg Church of Christ

to hold gospel meeting series

WELLSBURG - A series of gospel meetings, led by Jarrod Jacobs, will be held Sunday through Sept. 21 at Wellsburg Church of Christ at 92 Rose Cottage Lane, formerly known as Sunset Avenue.

The meetings will be held at 10 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday and at 7:30 p.m. on the other days.

Everyone is welcome to the talks, which are described as offering plain Bible teaching. For information, visit, where the talks also will be posted shortly after they are presented.

Church to hold homecoming

BEECH BOTTOM - Kadesh Chapel United Methodist Church on Apple Pie Ridge will celebrate its 228th Homecoming Sunday.

Pastor Bonnie Gilbert will be the guest speaker at 11 am., and a covered dish lunch will be served at 12:15 pm.

The afternoon service will begin at 2 pm, with Morris Knabenshue providing special music and guest recognition. Pastor Dorcas Conrad will preside over the daily services.

September has been designated as the month to collect food for the Holy Family Catholic Mission Food Pantry, and attendees are asked to bring food to to support that cause.

Bike run set for Sunday

WEIRTON - The Upper Ohio Valley Chapter of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education will hold its 9th Annual Big Jim Pittman Motorcycle Memorial Ride Sunday.

Registration will begin at noon at Ski's Grill on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton, with the first bike out at 1 p.m. and the last out at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple.

Library to hold story hours

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Branch of the Brooke County Public Library will be holding story hours for children, ages 2-5 and their caregivers at noon Monday and Sept. 24.

Children will enjoy a story, craft, games and a snack.

Hollidays Cove to be discussed

WEIRTON - The history of Hollidays Cove, a community along Harmon Creek that later became part of Weirton, will be discussed by three speakers at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Attorney Michael Nogay will discuss Hollidays Cove during America's Revolutionary/Frontier Period, retired West Liberty University professor David Javersak will discuss life there in the 19th century, and Dennis Jones, the museum's director, will look back on its existence 100 years ago.

The museum is at 3149 Main St.

Crocheting group to meet

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library's Crocheting Group will meet Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The group is for beginners through experts. Bring your own supplies and projects. If you need help, someone will be available to assist or instruct you.

CASA to share information

WEIRTON - Area residents interested in learning more about A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocate program are invited to the home of Robert and Heather Campbell at 3545 Riverview Drive from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The nonprofit program trains volunteers to represent the interests of children involved in abuse and neglect in Brooke and Hancock counties. Volunteers also are needed to help with fundraisers and day-to-day tasks at its office in Wellsburg.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film, "Snow White and the Huntsman," Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In this epic action-adventure a young girl is the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagines is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman who was dispatched to kill her.
