GFWC-WV Follansbee 20th Century Club celebrated the organization's 85th anniversary and honored seven past presidents during a luncheon Sept. 8 at Drover's Inn in Wellsburg.
The Twentieth Century Study Club of Follansbee was organized in March 1926 at the home of Bertha Simpson with Mrs. Jenkin Jones as the co-founder. The club became federated in September 1927, making it the first federated club in the community.
In the history of the club, it has contributed to the Salvation Army and March of Dimes; collected needed items for flood victims and collected Christmas books for children; awarded student scholarships; sponsored special heart and drug abuse programs; and has been involved in other community projects.
The club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the fellowship hall of the Follansbee Presbyterian Church on Main Street. The club will have a booth at Follansbee's Christmas in the Park on Oct. 13-14.
