WEIRTON - The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Sept. 10 at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way.

President Joan Spano called the meeting to order and presided over the business session.

Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led devotions; she read "The Blessing of Sharing" by Helen Steiner Rice, offered the invocation and included special prayers for Danny Lyons, Bob Davidson, Kathy Stillwell, Linda Bundy, Wanda Perrone, Chris Barker, Joan Spano, Gertie Hanlin and Ruth Ann Petrie.

Second Vice President Elizabeth Shipe led the Pledge of Allegiance; Vice President Darlene Kemp called roll; Recording Secretary Carol Lyons read the Aug. 13 meeting minutes, which were approved as read; and Maxine Ragan gave the treasurer's report.

Mary Ann Elliott gave the sunshine report. She sent get-well cards to club members Ruth Coates, Franklin Zirkle, Gabe Arlia, Danny Lyons and Jim Pizter; auxiliary member Joan Spano; and Roberta Rosnick. The club sent a thank-you card to Berna Bee, who provided a drawing prize at the club's recent picnic. September birthday wishes were extended to Shirley Brecht, Mary Arlia, Mary Ann Smith and Carol Mack, and members sang "Happy Birthday." The auxiliary purchased a gift card for adopted veteran Duke Horstemeyer's September birthday.

Joan Spano sent seven birthday cards, playing cards, sandals, lap robes and calendars to the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville. Joan Spano, Maxine Ragan and LaVonne Balint have addressed 675 Christmas cards for active-duty troops, and Tina Spano has addressed 200 and Joan Spano 145 for veterans.

Auxiliary members thanked Shirley Brecht and Marcy Spano for conducting the Sept. 8 audit, during which the treasurer's records were found to be in order.

Brecht asked that each member give a donation toward a drawing basket for the Marine Ball, which will be held Nov. 12 at the Serbian American Cultural Center. The auxiliary will purchase a full-page advertisement for the Ball Book.

Leroy Bee won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the treasurer.

Elizabeth Shipe and Marcy Spano served refreshments, and Maxine Ragan will serve at October's meeting.

Auxiliary members agreed to meet at the Irish Pub at a date to be announced.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the cultural center.
