Newbrough Photo is celebrating 65 years in business.
Francis Newbrough Sr. purchased a small, one-room photography studio in 1947, and, under his lead, it grew to include a camera shop and, eventually, film developing, not only for his location, but he was one of the first area businesses to pick-up and deliver photos.
In 1959, the business moved to its current location on Main Street when Francis Sr. purchased the building and added a Hallmark card store. Soon after, he suffered a heart attack, and the business was managed by his brother Raymond "Bud" Newbrough until 1970, when his oldest son, John Newbrough, and his brothers, Francis Jr. and David, took over the business.
It grew to 15 locations and was delivering photos to 200 locations. With the advent of digital cameras in 2000, the developing became a smaller part of the business and photography became the most prominent business.
Newbrough Photo now does photography work with 40 schools around the area, as well as custom framing, enlargements, video transfers to digital, photo restorations and camera supplies. It is managed by David Newbrough and John's son, John A. Newbrough.
Newbrough has been involved with the Weirton Chamber of Commerce since the early 1970s with John Newbrough Sr. on the Board of Directors for many of those years. Newbrough Photo has always felt it was an asset to be strongly involved with the chamber and know that, by being involved, they have learned a lot and made many contacts and been a better business.
Newbrough Photo thanks their many customers and business partners for helping them survive the many years. They know without the customers and their caring employees they would not be here. They look forward to many years of continuing to serve the Weirton area.
