Retired Harrison County Sheriff, RENSI, Richard Paul, 70, of Hopedale, Ohio, died Tuesday evening in Akron General Hospital after a sudden heart attack.
Rich was born in Steubenville October 1, 1941, and raised in Hopedale, Ohio. He was the son of the late Raymond and Ruth Tripp Rensi.
He was a graduate of the Hopedale High School Class of 1959. After graduation Rich was inducted into the U. S. Army serving from Feb. 1966 until Feb. 1968 in the 1st Sqdn 1st Cav., receiving the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal; and Combat Infantry Badge.
On March 10, 1961, he married Verna Case of Hopedale. For 24 years, Rich served as the Harrison County Sheriff. After retirement he worked part-time at Melv's Mowers in Freeport, Ohio; he was a board member of the Harrison Community Hospital and worked for Blackburn Funeral Homes. His newest job was as Green Township trustee. He was active in many different organizations: Hopedale American Legion, Hopedale VFW, Cadiz Masonic Lodge, Harrison Republican Party Committee Member; American Rifleman's Association, Buckeye Sheriff's Association, and was an avid Corvette fan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Verna Case Rensi; two sons, Gary (Laura) Rensi of Galloway, Ohio, Bryan (Farrah) Rensi of Hopedale; a brother, Raymond Charles (Glenda) Rensi of Dahlonega, Ga.; a sister, Rita Botine of Hopdale; 8 grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Hopedale United Methodsist Church, 237 Church St. in Hopedale, Ohio, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. with services there on Sat., Sept. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. Pastors Dean Blythe and Ruby Foutz will officiate. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Hopedale American Legion Post 682. Masonic services 5:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
