The Weirton United Way is officially kicking off its campaign this year with a week of special activities for everyone in the community.
The organization, which annually works to raise money for 15 area agencies, has a long road ahead of it as its volunteers and staff head into the next several weeks of fundraising activities.
As always, we wish them well and encourage our area residents to show their support.
All of our local United Way organizations provide an important service to our area by providing funding and resources to programs and agencies which might not be able to function otherwise.
In a time when more of us are having to watch our money more closely, the work of the men and women serving the United Way becomes even more important, as does reaching their fundraising goals.
This year, instead of holding a dinner to celebrate the beginning of the campaign, the Weirton United Way has put together a week full of events for the entire community.
Among those events is a 31 party on Monday and a sale of the United Way's cookbook on Tuesday. Wednesday, meanwhile, will see a luncheon for the United Way's campaign team and on Friday, local students from many of Weirton's schools will take part in the annual school walk-a-thon. We hope everyone will find a way to show their support for these and any future events.
The Weirton United Way's member agencies include: American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club of Weirton, Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, Boy Scouts of America, Camp Fire USA, CHANGE Inc., Dunbar Recreation Center, Healthways Inc., Hancock-Brooke-Ohio-Marshall Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Hancock County Sheltered Workshop Inc., Hancock County 4-H Foundation, Weirton Medical Center Hospital Charity Fund, Mary H. Weir Public Library, The Salvation Army and Weirton Christian Center.
We urge you all to lend a hand, show your support and live united.
