Prayers, not gossip, needed

Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

Although my wife, Nancy, and I have moved from the area to Wilmington, N.C., 10 years ago, we still make it a point to access the Herald-Star to keep up with the news in the Ohio Valley.

We have read about the incident involving students from Steubenville High School and are heartbroken. First and foremost, our prayers go out to the young lady and her family.

The reason for this letter is to allow us to speak on behalf of one of the students' families. We lived next door to Brian and Linda Mays and their children in Bloomingdale. They were good parents, very involved in the lives of their children and were raising them to be kind and respectful children. We feel sick to think about what they must be going through.

We all have tried to raise our children with good morals and to respect one another. Please keep in mind when talking about this incident, that all of these families and their loved ones are suffering through this painful ordeal and can use your prayers more than your opinions and gossip.
