WELLSBURG - The Tri-State Winemakers Club held a football tailgate-themed meeting, hosted by Wilson and Linda Cole and John and Norma Kovach, for their September meeting.

The members finalized plans for the wine-tasting at from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville.
Bill Shipe asked members to donate wine for gift baskets for a drawing at the Marine Corps Club Ball Nov. 10 to benefit Toys for Tots. He will collect the wine at the October meeting.
Members voted to assist the Weirton Lions Club with a wine-tasting from 6 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at Legends Hall on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The wine discussion was led by Cindy Parker, who read an article about the effects of the summer drought on the grape growers this season.
The harvest and grapes were smaller, but the fruit has more concentrated flavor. The concern is the stress on the vines from the drought may cause a bad crop next year.
Charlie Rangos and Karen Truax won prizes.
The next meeting will be a Halloween party at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Wellsburg Elks Lodge. The meeting will be hosted by Marlene Marsh.
