Camera Club announces upcoming events

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio - The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club held business meetings in August and September to discuss a number of topics.

The officers and other positions were nominated and approved for the 2012-2013 season. The current officers include President Steve Whiting, Vice President Debra Snider, Secretary Judy Whiting and Treasurer Karen Tindor.

Barb Momyer will remain the competition chair, assisted by Lynn Payne. Diane Bannister will continue as the media representative as well as coordinator of some club exhibits. The club trustees for the upcoming season are Angela McClain, Andy Tindor and Don Roberts. Claudia Norris was nominated as a lifetime honorary trustee, having been one of the longest-term members of the club.

Competition Chair Momyer collected suggestions from club members throughout August regarding competition topics for each month for the competition season, beginning in October and ending July 2013. At the September business meeting, members voted on the topics. The competition topics chosen for 2012-1013 were October, Love/Friendship; November, Things That Fly; December, Signs; January, Frost; February, Winter Scenes; March, Silhouettes; April, Oxidation Interpretation (Rusty Stuff); May, Historical; June, Water; and July, Bubbles.

At the recent business meetings, Andy Tindor collected pictures from members who had submissions representing scenic views of the four seasons of the year for the 2013 McBane Insurance Calendar.

Bannister also collected pictures from members wishing to participate in the club's October exhibit at Mary H. Weir Public Library. the theme of the exhibit is "Colors of Autumn." Sam Rees was trying to find a location for the club to go on a walk through Wheeling.

Bannister told the group that Mary H. Weir Library Director Rik Rekowski has invited the club to joint participation in offering a photo contest for the public. President Steve Whiting said that they will discuss the possible project at a future meeting.

The August meeting was held at the home of members Lisa and Todd Carte near state Route 213, Steubenville. After the meeting, the Cartes treated the members to a wine-tasting party as Todd Carte makes his own wines.

Upcoming events were discussed at the August and September meetings.

They include:

5:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Fort Steuben Mall. Club members will set up their annual exhibit near Macy's. The exhibit will run from Oct. 8 through Oct. 14 during regular business hours at the mall. Anyone attending can vote for a "People's Choice Award" and the club members will vote on a "Member's Choice Award." The club will take down the exhibit Oct. 14. Whiting mentioned that there will be a new display board purchased and used at the exhibit in memory of Margaret Powley.

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Stifel Fine Arts Center in Wheeling. Members plan to attend the reception for Master Photographer Jay Stock who will have his pictures on display.

7 p.m. Oct. 16. The club will begin the new monthly competition season for 2012-2013.

5:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Mary H. Weir Public Library. The club's exhibit, "Colors of Autumn," will open.

The club voted to hold the annual awards banquet, a covered-dish dinner, at the regular meeting place. A date will be announced. At the banquet, the "Photographers of the Year" in prints and slides will be recognized.
