WILLIAMSON, Clarence L. "Willie", 85, of Mingo Junction, OH, passed away peacefully Monday September 24, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 22, 1927, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Martin L. and Lillian (Noble) Williamson Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lee Furbee Jr.; and six brothers, Carl Noble and Martin Jr., John, Robert, George and Richard Williamson.
Clarence served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he worked underwater demolition on a submarine; he then served during the Korean Conflict where he worked at a submarine base in Gratiot, Connecticut. Willie began working in 1946 and was a co-owner of the former Oliver Appliances in Steubenville until his retirement in 2002. He was a lifetime member of Kolmont Community Church and was a trustee for many years. He was also a charter member of the G.K.L. Wildlife Assoc. He enjoyed working in his garden and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Helen (Spencer) Williamson, whom he married on February 15, 1947; a daughter, Ruth Furbee of Toronto, OH; a son, Richard (Cindy) Williamson of Toronto, OH; a sister, Ruth Carl of Mingo Junction; six grandchildren, Christopher Furbee, Aaron (Ashley) Furbee, Jennifer (Troy) Hill, Abra (Shawn) Neeley, Jabin (Gretchen) Williamson and Cody Williamson; and five great-grandchildren, TJ, Tyler, Travis, Taylor Hill and Baden Neeley.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction. On Thursday Clarence will Lay in State at Kolomont Community Church from 11 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at noon, with Rev. Sam Retzer, officiating. Private interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
