Event to support chamber programs

September 26, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

The Wine and Dine at Williams, presented by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Business Development Corp., is coming up fast and we hope to see its continued support from the community.

Set for Oct. 6 at Williams Country Club and only in its third year, the event has fast become one of the Weirton area's premiere social events and it's easy to see why.

While the Wine and Dine features a simple-enough concept - a fun evening of sampling wines and food with live music and other attractions - there is so much more to it.

The Wine and Dine, which is open to anyone with the purchase of a ticket, also has become a major fundraising event for the Weirton chamber and its programs.

In particular, the event is focused on raising money for the chamber's educational activities, such as Leadership Weirton and Youth Leadership Weirton, as well as the High School Business Symposium.

Leadership Weirton is centered on finding ways to get businessmen and women more involved in their local communities by encouraging them to learn about our area's businesses, history, government and education, while providing opportunities to volunteer and give back to others.

Youth Leadership is similar, but geared toward high school students, teaching skills about working together and how best to blend individual skills and ideas in the workplace. The High School Business Symposium, also for high school students, is a one-day session to help prepare our future leaders for the business world with lessons in how to go through a job interview, marketing and product creation.

The Wine and Dine also serves as a fundraiser for the ongoing work to upgrade Weirton's community Christmas lights to an LED format, making them brighter while also cutting down on energy costs.

This project has been in the works for the last several years and continues to need assistance.

We are grateful to see these programs receive so much support from the community each year and know this year will continue that trend.

So, if you haven't gotten your tickets for this fun-filled evening yet, we encourage you to do so soon as they're going fast.
