Wintersville hydrants will be flushed
WINTERSVILLE - Village crews will flush hydrants from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Oct. 4, according to officials.
Residents may experience discoloring.
Brightway Center activities planned
SMITHFIELD -The Brightway Center's activity center is nearing completion, according to officials at the center located on county Road 15.
The first athletic event, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Buckeye Local High School. The tournament will feature high school and adult divisions with medals for first-, second- and third-place teams. Each team must have four players per team, and Daryle Griffin, CEO and president, and board members will serve as referees. The registration fee is $25 per team, and the deadline is Tuesday.
Also, a harvest fest will be held Oct. 20, with games for kids, a hayride, bonfire and special guest speaker Ivory Williams, a former elementary school principal and Vietnam veteran, who is a folk story teller.
Vicki Hogan, a two-time breast cancer survivor and now advocate for breast cancer awareness, will hold an educational seminar at the center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 27.
Kara's kids, a youth group led by Cathy Takach, project manager, and the Rev. Patricia Angel, meet each Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with children in grades sixth to 12th.
Gephardt to speak at Democratic dinner
CHARLESTON - Former Congressman and House Democratic leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri will serve as speaker for the West Virginia Democratic Party's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner planned Oct. 27 at the Charleston Civic Center.
Tickets for the fundraising dinner are $75 per person or $1,000 for a table of 10.
