Greater Weirton Senior Center holding bake sale today

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Senior Center will hold its monthly bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Pumpkin rolls will be available for $8 each.

The senior center will hold a community fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Weirton Bob Evans. Information is available at the center or Bob Evans.

Lions Club selling pulled pork

NEW CUMBERLAND - The New Cumberland Lions Club will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and smoked chicken halves from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the New Cumberland Riverfest at the Firemen's Field.

Sandwiches are $5 and chicken halves are $5.50, and, for an additional $1.50, two sides, including baked beans, potato salad or coleslaw, are available. Bottled water and cans of soda will be available for 75 cents.

Whole smoked pork butts are available for $22 by advance order.

To receive a pork butt, call Lion Bob Manypenny at (304) 564-5055 or Lion Russ Flanigan at (304) 387-1176 by noon today for pick-up on Saturday only. There will be no pick-ups on Sunday.

Story hours to be held

FOLLANSBEE - The Follanbee Branch Library will hold story hours for children, ages 2-5, and their caregivers at noon each Monday in October.

Children attending the Oct. 29 story hour are invited to wear their Halloween costumes.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Community Educational Outreach Service club will present a free craft class for children, age 8 and up, at the Brooke County Public Library Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

'Avengers' coming to library

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-13-rated film, "The Avengers," at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4.

The comic book-inspired film features Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and other superheroes.

Pumpkin-carving contest set

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be holding a pumpkin decorating contest in conjunction with the Wellsburg Applefest at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 5.

The contest is open to children in pre-school through eighth grade. The pumpkins have been provided by the Friends of the Brooke County Public Library.

Church to celebrate anniversary

SMITHFIELD, Ohio - St. Paul A.M.E. Church will host a day-long celebration of its pastor and church community Oct. 7 at the church located at 145 High St.

The pastor appreciation event will begin at noon with the morning worship, honoring the Rev. L.A. Gatewood, with the theme "Celebrating the Call," followed by dinner from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the church undercroft.

The church also will celebrate its 176th anniversary with the theme "Saved by His Grace," at 4 p.m. Oct. 7 with a service featuring the Mass choir of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church of Canton, Ohio.

Board of Health seeking member

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Board of Health is seeking a person to serve on the board.

Those interested in serving must reside in Butler District and be a registered Democrat. It is a five-year term that will begin on appointment by the Hancock County Commission.
