MORGANTOWN - It was a long, hard-fought game between the Madonna and Morgantown Trinity girls' soccer teams Thursday night. It was a scoreless tie late into the game until Madonna freshman Elizabeth Conforti found the back of the net with the game-winning goal for the Blue Dons. Madonna head coach Bob Kolanko says this is an important win for his girls.
"It was awful nice to finally get that victory," he said. "We had two losses and two ties leading into this game, so its nice for the girls to get a win and give them something to fight for for the next game.
"I think our girls came out in the second half and took control of the game. They made a lot better shots, a lot better passes and the defense was stellar in the second half.
"That really helped us keep the ball in out attacking end and gave us the opportunity for the late score to win the game."
Madonna sophomore Mia Antinone led the team with four shots, while fellow sophomore Rachel Grubbs contributed three. Junior Alayna Macaluso also had three shots.
Trinity totaled 11 shots on the night. Madonna goalkeeper Amy Davis finished the game with 7 saves.
Madonna is back in action Tuesday at the J.C. Williams Soccer Complex against University.
