From the Pulpit: Love one another

September 30, 2012
By THE REV. JAMES FOGLIO - Weirton Covenant Church , Weirton Daily Times

This is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. A new commandment I (Jesus) give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

The world confuses lust for love and lawlessness for freedom. Throwing the commandments out the window is the surest way to destroy a society. Truth tells us that because of lawlessness, love grows cold. When the commandments are broken relationships wan and are very often destroyed. When the commandments are broken life is violated. For this reason divorce is at an all time high. Many people would rather have an affair than risk the pain of an ungodly relationship. Of course sexual promiscuity is a destroyer of human dignity and individual self worth. True godly relationships walk in the divine protection of the commandments, honoring God and keeping His word. As a result of this they are the blessed of the world.

Our Christian way of life is being attacked. Youth are encouraged to have safe sex. Unwanted pregnancies are aborted. Abstinence is considered old fashioned and virginity is mocked. Waiting until marriage is not considered sheik but happy are those who do wait.

Parental rights are being eroded away and discipline is considered child abuse. Instead of paddling we drug them with Ritalin. A child can even get an abortion without parental notification. Murderers receive light sentences instead of the death penalty.

Prayer and scripture reading have been removed from public schools. The theory of evolution is taught as factual. The pledge of allegiance has been under attach because of the words "under God." The Ten Commandments are being removed. If you disapprove of homosexuality you're called a homophobe. Scripture declare that God hates that lifestyle; I suppose that makes Him homophobic. Pedophilia seems to be on a rampage; an example of exposure to unrestrained sexual perversion.

The judgment of God will not remain silent forever. Listen to the Scriptures; ROM 1:18-27 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

May God have mercy on our nation and grant that repentance that leads to life. I hope we can all believe as the Apostle Paul who declared; ROM 1:16,17 ..I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "But the righteous man shall live by faith." Turn from every perversion and sin to the living god through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
