WEIRTON - A Weirton resident was given a variance Tuesday to build a garage at the front of his property.
Ed Grace, 395 S. 11th St., told the panel his lot "is a little different than most lots, it doesn't really conform" to the norm.
Chief Code Official Rod Rosnick said Weirton's Unified Development Ordinance mandates accessory structures be placed behind the rear wall of any houses on a particular property, but Grace's lot "is unique, it's L-shaped."
Rosnick said because of the topography, "70 percent or more would be considered his front yard."
Grace assured the board the structure is for his personal use.
"With the topography of my land, it's better for me to have it there than back farther," he said.
