Weirton Daily Times

BETHANY - The Bethany Woman's Club, a chapter of the General Federation of Women's Club of West Virginia, opened its year Sept. 17 at Bethany Church, with Helen Moren, president, presiding.

Devotions were led by Ruth Tye, and Angie Counselman spoke about her experiences at Girls State.

Officers for this administration are: Moren, president; Deloris Hart, vice president, Beverly Chambers, secretary; and Judy Pyle, treasurer.

Moren reported on the summer conference held Aug. 10-11 at Flatwoods. Carol Allen, GFWC-WV president, announced her project will be Camp Kno Koma, a week-long camp for children with juvenile diabetes.

Jo-Ellen Wright, district president, has selected addressing hunger as her project.

Members will be working on the following projects: setting up a website; Halloween favors for nursing homes; hats for the Wheeling soup kitchen; Christmas stockings for Boatsie's Boxes; Operation Smile; and Little Dresses for Africa.

The club will sponsor a soup and sandwich luncheon Monday at Bethany Memorial Church, with proceeds going for community projects and the church.

The Northern District Convention will be held Oct. 13 and hosted by Woman's Club of McMechen. Club members also will honor veterans at a coffee hour on Nov. 11 and dinner on Nov. 13.

The group also has partnered with the Bethany College Connections program in welcoming students to Bethany. The program gives students insight on town government and other organizations in the community.

Refreshments were served by Moren.
