WEIRTON - The folks at DeeJay's BBQ Ribs and Grille are once again stepping up to help others in the community.

Last week, the employees of the local restaurant began their annual sale of special pink T-shirts to help raise awareness of breast cancer while lending a hand to a local organization.

The shirts, which cost $15 each, display an awareness ribbon with the phrase "The power of pink" on the front, and the restaurant's logo on the back. All proceeds from the shirts' sales will go to the Tony Teramana Cancer Center's T.E.A.R. fund.

"This is our fourth year doing it," manager Donna Brown said, noting it is the third year the fundraiser has assisted T.E.A.R.

The fundraiser initially was started to recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help an individual many of the restaurant's employees knew. It since has grown from there, bringing in more money each year.

"We actually started last week to get five weeks out of it," she said.

The special "Power of Pink" T-shirts are available at Dee-Jay's for $15. Proceeds benefit the Tony Teramana Cancer Center.

Brown said the T-shirts have been flying off the shelves since this year's fundraiser began.

"We've been doing really well this year," Brown said, explaining they already have had to order a second batch of shirts.

In addition to the T-shirt sale, the employees are contributing in their own way, by donating $5 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be able to have a "dress down" day, wearing the T-shirt and jeans instead of their regular work uniforms.
