WELLSBURG The Brooke County Public Library will hold a fall-themed evening storytime with Kim Harless, program director, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Discounts offered at shelter
BEECH BOTTOM - Each Thursday the Brooke County Animal Shelter will be offering a discount on cats adopted there as part of its Purrsday Thursday promotion.
The cost will vary according to whether the cats have been spayed or neutered and received vaccinations prior to adoption, and adopters must submit the normally required pre-adoption forms.
The shelter also has a variety of dogs available for adoption. Located on Mac Barnes Drive, off state Route 2 south of Beech Bottom, it is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
Christian concert scheduled
ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - Emmanuel Baptist Church will host their third Christian music concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 13 at the church located at 50470 National Road.
Vocalist and pianist Lynne Modranski, contemporary Christian musician Kevin Lauer and gospel singer Chris McLean will be featured.
A love offering will be taken.

'Poe' to visit Brooke Library
WELLSBURG - Just in time for the Halloween season, the Brooke County Public Library will present a program featuring the master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, at 6 p.m. Oct. 17.
George Bartley, a former guide at the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, Va., will portray the famous author through the West Virginia Humanities Council's History Alive! program. Bartley will interweave the tragic events of Poe's life with some of his most famous works.

DAR seeks members
WEIRTON - The Fort Steuben Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold an informational meeting for prospective members at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the First Christian Church located at 3252 Main St.
Those who have an ancestor who took part in the American Revolutionary War are invited to attend the meeting and receive assistance with research and filling out an application.

Knights holding dance
WEIRTON - The Knights of Columbus will hold a dance from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 20, featuring music by Light Touch.
Admission is $5 per person, and dress is casual. Those attending may bring their own snacks and finger foods. A cash bar will be available. The event is open to the public.
The knights will hold a spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 in the hall gallery. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread and coffee. The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and free for children 5 and under.

Program aimed at newly diagnosed
ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio - The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host "Moving Forward: A Program for the Newly Diagnosed" from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 at Undo's located at 51130 National Road.
The program is intended for people with MS and their family members to learn the basics on MS and services offered by the MS Society. Dr. Christian Sonnefeld will present.
This program is free but registration is required.

Lions to hold wine-tasting
WEIRTON - The Weirton Lions Club will hold a wine-tasting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 27 at Penn Place, formerly Legends, located on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Tri-State Winemakers Club also is an event sponsor.
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance from any Lions member or at the door the evening of the event. Proceeds benefit Lions community projects. Free on-site parking is available.
The Weirton Lions Club has been serving the Weirton Area for the past 75 years with an emphasis on providing eye glasses and hearing aides to those in need.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation will hold a Night at the Races and dance Oct. 27 at the Wellsburg Banquet Hall.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the race portion, with the dance to begin at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased from any foundation member.

WARWOOD - The Civic League of Warwood will sponsor a fall benefit card party from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Warwood Elementary School gymnasium located at 151 Viking Drive.
A luncheon will be served, and the event will include a bake sale, 50/50 drawing, Chinese auction and basket drawing. The venue is handicapped accessible.

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Curves, located at 1100 Steubenville Pike, will host a birthday party floral design fundraiser held by Lily's - A Flower Boutique, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20.
Tickets are $12 for the event, which will include food, and must be purchased in advance at Curves. There also will be a Chinese auction. Proceeds for the event will go to the American Cancer Society.
