Charity walk a success

October 7, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

To the editor:

We would like to thank everyone who helped make Abigail's Angels Charity Walk held Sept. 22 at Indian Creek High School a success. Thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals, we were able to raise $31,000 to benefit the RDH12 Fund For Sight. The money raised will be used to fund research for the RDH12 gene mutation. Individuals with RDH12, a form of Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, progressively lose their sight. Abigail Kinney, an 8-year-old from Bloomingdale has been diagnosed with this disease.

Thank you to our church family at Starkdale Presbyterian Church for hosting this event. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you have a whole congregation of people asking, "How can I help?" The Starkdale congregation fully supports Abigail and the fund. And, thank you to the Edison football team which participated in the walk and members of the Beta Club. These young people are following the example set by the Edison Local School District's staff and parents that fully supported Abigail with their presence, donations, labor and love.

And a thanks to our major sponsors: Starkdale Presbyterian Women, the Center of Music and Art, Trinity Health System, Fort Steuben Maintenance, Dr. Thomas and Suzanne Brown, Water Transport, World Radio Telecommunications, McBane Insurance and Financial Services, the Four Friends, Jim Davis Enterprises, Movin and Groovin Productions, Neidengard's Harley-Davidson, Wheeling-Nisshin, DeNoon Lumber Co., Steel Valley Tank and Welding, SPM Fleet Services Inc., Cryogenic Construction, Hess Energy, the Berholz Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Teramana Jr., Franciscan University of Steubenville, R.J. and Eva Stewart, Piney Fork Presbyterian Church, Dr. Michael and Dina Scarpone, Steubenville Rotary Club, Richmond Lions Club, WTOV-TV, WCDK-FM, McConnell's Farm Market, Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Snack Brothers Inc., Arby's, KFC and Wendy's.

There are other contributors that we don't have enough space to mention, but we are grateful. Visit www.abigails-angels.com or www.starkdale.org for the complete list.

We would like to thank Anna Ault and her students from the Trinity School of Nursing; Steve Cowser and Indian Creek Schools; Chief Ed Laman of the Wintersville Police Department; Mari Ann Ohba; Melissa Ryan; Lisa, Kenny and Kera Wells; Mary McCardel; Wintersville United Methodist Church; DaPeppino's Restaurant; Starkdale Youth Group; Melannie and Rick Carver and the Bethany baseball team; and B&B Screen Printing.

A thank you to Jill Wickham, Mary Louise Morgan, Sharon Petrilla, Patty Dennis and Diane Smith, who created beautiful baskets for our drawing. Thanks to our church secretary, Rose Mary Grimm, for all of her help.

A thank you to our volunteers who manned the registration tables, cooked and served lunch and much more.

Thanks to everyone who walked or attended the event. Your love and support meant the world to the Kinney family.

It is our prayer that through the funding of the research a cure will be found for Abigail and others. May God continue to bless the good works of this Ohio Valley.
