WEIRTON - The wine was flowing at Williams Country Club Saturday night as the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle presented the third-annual Wine and Dine at Williams.

The event serves as a yearly fundraiser for many of the chamber's educational programs, as well as to assist with upgrading the community Christmas lights.

"I'm extremely happy with the turnout," Chamber President Brenda Mull said. "I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and look forward to coming back next year."

BDC Executive Director Pat Ford agreed, saying everyone who contributes toward an event such as the Wine and Dine is contributing toward their community, which helps to better position the area for future growth.

"It's always exciting to see so many people come out and support our chamber of commerce and the Business Development Corp.," Ford said.

Mull thanked Williams Country Club for hosting the event, and said none of it would have been possible without the support of sponsors.

Sponsors for this year's event included gold sponsor Weirton Medical Center; beverage sponsor Wine and Beverage Merchants; wine glass sponsor PS Marketing; food sponsor WesBanco; man cave sponsor Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort; program sponsor Paper and Press Ink; ticket sponsor Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home; and carriage ride sponsor Fairfield Inn and Suites.

Nick Latousakis of Wine and Beverage Merchants, which has served as a sponsor since the event's beginning, said he saw a good cross section of the Weirton community at the event and thanked the chamber for putting the event together.

"It's wonderful the chamber fosters these types of events," he said. "It's a good fundraiser for the chamber, which, in turn, benefits the business community."

David Artman, director of operations at Weirton Medical Center, said the hospital was happy to be a part of the Wine and Dine. This was Weirton Medical Center's first time sponsoring the event.

"We feel privileged to be the provider of health care for the Weirton community," Artman said.

This also was Mountaineer's first year as a major sponsor, supporting the man cave, which was set up behind the club house and offered a variety of cigars and hard liquors.

"Mountaineer is happy to be a part of the Wine and Dine," Director of Human Resources Vince Azzarello said. "Everyone seems to be having a good time."

The Fairfield Inn and Suites, a perennial sponsor, provided the carriage rides for attendees, which took riders along Williams Drive.

"We're pleased to be a sponsor for the third year in a row," hotel General Manager Barb Owens said. "This event keeps getting better and better."

Programs benefiting from the Wine and Dine at Williams include the chamber's Leadership Weirton and Youth Leadership Weirton, along with the High School Business Symposium.

It also contributes toward the upkeep of the Christmas lights, including the community light display on Three Springs Drive and those hanging along Main Street. In recent years, the chamber has been working to upgrade to LED lights for the displays.
