WEIRTON - For almost 85 years, The Weirton Daily Times has provided a comprehensive daily report of the news and events throughout the Tri-State Area.
Adding an Apple OS application to the methods readers can get their news is the latest medium the newspaper is using to reach readers when and where they want their news.
The app joins the newspaper and weirtondailytimes.com as ways for readers to get their news. All three are unique products, providing both news and special features that are unique to each format.
"The Weirton Daily Times has been a part of the community for more than 80 years - since June 1928 - working each day to provide the best coverage possible of news and events for our residents," Managing Editor Craig Howell said. "The addition of this new app is one more way we will be able to keep our readers informed, no matter where they go."
The popularity of the Apple iPhone and the iPad pushed the newspaper to develop the app for those devices first. The combined traffic the newspaper's website receives from those two devices is far more than from all other mobile devices combined.
All mobile users, including those on Apple devices, still will be able to access our site using a web browser. Content on the main website, the newspaper's mobile site located at mobile.weirtondailytimes.com and the new app will be updated daily.
Visiting The Weirton Daily Times' website with any device running the Apple OS system will trigger a screen prompting readers to download the app. Search for the app in the App Store.
With the app, readers can read stories, write comments, search, take polls and even find local garage sales.
"We are pleased to extend the reach of our award-winning and trusted coverage to our readers who have long depended on us to let them know what is happening in their community," said Publisher Alex Marshall. "The addition of the iPhone app gives us yet another way to serve our readers."
