Weirton Daily Times

The Italian American Cultural Club will be hosting its second-annual "Festa del Vino" from 6 p. m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.

The wine and beer tasting event will have Piergallini Catering pairing foods with wines supplied by Iron City Distributing Co.

Some of the wines being showcased this year are Barefoot, Woodbridge, Menage a Trois, Ooh La La, Turning Leaf, Beringer, 14 Hands, Indian Wells and Hot to Trot. There will a total of four wine pouring stations: Moscatos, Spritzers, Washington State and Dessert. For those who are not wine drinkers there will be an added bonus station of new beers and hard ciders that are now available in the area: Angry Orchard and Woodchuck hard ciders, distributed by Iron City Distributing, and O'Fallon and Yuengling beers, distributed by Choice Brands of Ohio.

Food selections from Piergallini Catering will include shrimp, pork sliders, balsamic beef, bruschetta, assorted cheeses and fruit. Sausages will be served at the beer station. There also will be a dessert table featuring a variety of homemade biscotti.

An added feature this year will be a hot beverage bar with assorted coffees and liquers.

A special highlight of the evening will be a silent auction of art work, sports memorabilia, gift cards, overnight trips, assorted gift baskets and other items. Numerous door prizes of wine and gift items will be awarded throughout the evening, and a 50/50 drawing also will be conducted.

Musical entertainment throughout the evening will be presented by accordionist Rick Pastre and Joel Smith, a vocalist in the style of Michael Buble. Club member John Balzano will serve as master of ceremonies.

Proceeds from "Festa del Vino" will benefit the IACC scholarship fund, according to Theresa Metcalf, event chairman and scholarship chairman. Metcalf noted that as a result of last year's event, the IACC was able to award five $1,000 scholarships to area high school graduates. The club hopes to repeat or surpass that success again this year, she said. The scholarships are named in memory of the late Rev. Edmondo Stabene whose teaching and guidance touched the lives of many throughout his lifetime, she added.

Tickets for the event are $30 and can be obtained by calling Vince or Sandy Talarico at (740) 264-4065 or St. Florian Hall at (740) 264-7048. Tickets also are available at Celebrations, Scaffidi's Pasta and Pittera's Pizza.
