Weir High School Class of '59

will hold dinner meeting

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 1959 will hold their monthly dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Three Springs Drive Eat'n Park.

Church to hold spaghetti dinner

PARIS, Pa. - The Victory Life Church will hold a dinner and concert as a South Africa mission trip fundraiser Sunday at the church located at 590 Steubenville Pike.

Dinner begins at 4:30 p.m., and the concert will be held at 6 p.m.

The meal includes spaghetti, salad, meatballs, dessert and beverage. Brent Kinball will perform. The cost is $10 for dinner and the concert.

Poetry reading to be held

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - Jeanne Bryner will read from her "Smoke: Poems" at 6:30 p.m. at Kent State University's East Liverpool campus and at 1 p.m. at Java Joe's Coffee House Wednesday.

The readings are open to the public.

Bryner's "No Matter How Many Windows" won the 2011 Tillie Olson Prize from the Working-Class Studies Association and "Breathless" won the Wick Poetry Program Chapbook Series. She received a 2009 Ohio Arts Council/Vermont Studio Center residency.

Bryner also wrote the play "Intensive Care" and books "Tenderly Lift Me," "Blind Horse" and "Eclipse: Stories."

She also adapted "Blind Horse" for the theater.

Pumpkin-decorating contest set

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Branch Library will hold a pumpkin-decorating contest Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The contest is open to children in pre-school through 8th grade.

The Follansbee Friends of the Library will donate the pumpkins and supply judges for the contest. All supplies will be provided by the library.

Church to sell lunches

WELLSBURG - Christ Episcopal Church, 1014 Main St., will sell roast beef sandwich lunches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

the cost is $6.50 for the lunches, which also include chips, beverage and a slice of Hawaiian sheet cake. Individual sandwiches are available for $4.50 each.

Take-out and delivery to local businesses and shut-ins is available by calling (304) 737-3432 after 8:30 a.m. that day.

Animated film to be shown

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-rated animated film, "Madagascar 3," Oct. 20 at 11 a.m.

Museum to hold art exhibit

WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center will hold the fourth annual Robert Haworth Memorial Art Exhibition from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at the museum located at 3149 Main St.

Mary Ann June will be the featured artist, and Haworth's students and other local artists will have work on display.

Folk jam, potluck dinner scheduled

AVELLA - Weatherbury Farm will hold its sixth annual October potluck dinner and folk music jam Oct. 20 at the Livery Hall behind the farmhouse located at 1061 Sugar Run Road.

The potluck dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the folk music jam will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Those attending are asked to bring a covered-dish. Those intending on performing are asked to bring an instrument. Those interested in performing or listening to folk music are invited to attend.
