BORSCH, George, 85, of Richmond, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Steubenville, the son of the late Stefan and Elizabeth Drobnak Borsch.
George was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, 80 inch with 34 years of service and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he received the American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, was present at the signing of the peace treaty with Japan and was a graduate of Steubenville Big Red Class of 1944.
George was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Winterville American Legion Post 557 and the USW Local 1190.
George is also preceded in death by his brothers, John, Stephen, Andrew and an infant, John, sisters, Anna Getsey, Mary Blaschak, Judy Mihalko, Betty Young and two infants, Mary and Paulene Borsch and son-in-law, Richard L. Brockway.
Surviving are his wife; Martha Cooper Borsch whom he married Aug. 16, 1947, one son, George A. (Deborah) Borsch of Richmond, three daughters, Janis (Franco) DiVenanzo of Colliers, Cyndy (Jim) Haynes of Toronto and Tammy (Rick) Cope of FL.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Where services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday. Fr. Jack McCoy will officiate. Burial will be private.
