WEIRTON - The 2013 Hall of Fame banquet will be held in August, committee members decided Tuesday.
Committee chairman Frank Bohach said it was a question of logistics.
"We don't have enough time to do everything by the end of April," he said, adding that the April date also offered up too many scheduling problems with weddings, graduations and even Orthodox Easter celebrations conflicting with past banquet dates.
"There's just so much going on in April, May and June," he said. "We talked it over (with city officials) and they suggested going to August, when there isn't so much going on."
Bohach said the change opens up "a lot of different venues we wouldn't otherwise think about."
With the banquet change, the committee opted to accept nominations from Jan. 1 through May 1.
Going forward, the committee members are hoping to access more grant funding for the project.
Founded in 2009, the Hall of Fame Committee was seeded by two $10,000 grants. Bohach said they have about $7,000 left in their account, much of which will be used to cover 2013 banquet expenses. They're planning to use the rest to replace the laptop that they'd originally purchased to house an interactive learning experience for Hall of Fame visitors - which was stolen from the Millsop Community Center around the turn of the year - with a display that can be bolted into the floor or wall.
Board members hope to look at funding opportunities through the Division of Culture and History as well as legislative digest funding through area lawmakers.
The committee set its next meeting for 6 p.m. Nov. 15.
