Salvation Army invites community to lunch

WEIRTON - Area residents will have an opportunity to give to those in need and get a meal in the process.

The Salvation Army is hosting a lunch exchange to be held at its location at 796 Cove Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Brenda Greathouse, social services director, explained the lunch exchange is to allow the community to join the Salvation Army in the observance of Make A Difference Day, which is Oct. 27.

To take part, Salvation Army officials are asking for the contribution of a bag of nonperishable food items, which will go to the Salvation Army's food pantry.

"If a customer brings in a food donation, they can exchange it for a light lunch," Greathouse said. "We invite everyone to stop in for lunch and to enjoy fellowship and to support our efforts to restock the food pantry. It is our desire to make a difference in our community through the giving of food baskets to assist those in need during the difficult economic times in our surrounding area. We want to thank our community and businesses for the help given."

Other activities also are being planned by the Salvation Army for Make A Difference Day, it was noted.
