WEIRTON - Area residents have a chance to take in a magic show and help out a local high school band at the same time.
The Stars of Magic will be presented 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Weir High School Theatre. Tickets are $10 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the Weir High School Band.
The event will feature performances by magicians Puck and Scott Alexander, both of whom have appeared on the television program "America's Got Talent." It also will include appearances by Ben Salinas, Dan Harlan and Strolling Joe Kelly.
Tickets can be purchased through members of the band, or can be reserved by calling (304) 479-0987.
Puck brings a new feel to some of magic's classic illusions. He began his career in magic at the age of 6, honing his craft into appearances throughout the country, including the Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York.
He was a finalist at the 72nd International Brotherhood of Magicians Gold Medal Competition, and received first place for stage magic at the World Magic Summit held in Washington, D.C.
Alexander headlined at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for more than seven years, fusing a large stage magic show with stand-up comedy. He also developed "Elements" for Norwegian Cruise Lines, which currently is in production on five of the company's ships.
He also was featured on an episode of "Oprah" and in articles in national magazines such as "People" and "Nations Business Magazine."
Salinas has been a featured performer around the world and also lectures on aspects of magic. He is a founding member of the Penn State Performing Magicians and International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 352.
Harlan is known for both his close-up and stage magic productions and is considered one of magic's most sought after instructors.
The performers are in the area as part of the Outside the Box Magic Expo, which also will be taking place in Weirton Saturday.
