Charity Hospice of Wintersville is looking for volunteers with an upcoming training class set for Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church's Sargus Hall in Wintersville.
Lunch will be provided.
"Volunteers are very important in the everyday function of a successful hospital organization," said Steve Seminara, director of volunteers. "In particular, volunteers visit, encourage or just sit with patients or families. Our volunteers do patient care, bereavement, public relations, fundraising and office work. We need individuals who are caring and willing to give us a few hours a week," Seminara said.
"Would you be interested in reminiscing with someone who has lived a full life and would like to tell their life's story? For instance, just share stories with a veteran or sports enthusiast. How about being able to listen to one's hunting or fishing experiences?" Seminara explained.
"Several of our volunteers gain much enjoyment in helping those patients around the house with cooking, craft making, reading and perhaps just playing a game of cards or watching television. Most important, we are looking for volunteers who would be interested in giving some of their time to someone who has lived a full life - in particular just sharing one's interest of their life's experiences," he said.
Volunteers will receive training from Charity's staff and other volunteers. Among the classes are the hospital concept; communication skills; understanding grief, loss and bereavement; and methods of ambulation.
