Campaign under way
Area schools stand united as the United Way of Jefferson County’s 2013 campaign kicks off. Local schools and districts compete for the Top Dog and Gopher awards each year by having classroom activities and school fundraisers. The school district that has the largest percentage increase above last year’s total will be the new home for one year for the United Way gopher. The school district that has raised the most money will be the new home for one year for the United Way Top Dog. The individual school raising the most money and the individual school with the highest percent increase also will be given awards. Teachers also participate through giving and payroll deductions. Among the activities planned will be Indian Creek High School’s Powder Puff football game in November with proceeds going to the United Way. With Patricia Fletcher, United Way schools division chair, left, are, Brooke Miller of the Buckeye Local School District; Trevor Stonebraker of Edison Local; Emily Farcone of Jefferson County Joint Vocational School; Karli Wilson of Indian Creek; Waylon Hayes of Steubenville City Schools; and Noah Smith of Toronto City Schools.
