WEIRTON - Fourth Ward Councilman George Ash, Community Bread Basket Finance chair, presented $5,000 from the fiscal year 2011 Coal Severance Fund to Bread Basket Program Administrator Tara Sheperd.

"I petitioned the city for this money to be used in my ward," said Ash. "When I saw the deficits occurring, I asked for the money to go to Community Bread Basket. This money can only be used to purchase food to help feed the less fortunate of Brooke and Hancock Counties."

Sheperd said Community Bread Basket is suffering the effects of the depressed economy.

"The depressed economy and joblessness causes many of our former contributors to now be asking for help to get through these times," she said. "This money will help us get through the Thanksgiving food distribution."
