STEUBENVILLE - Texas Roadhouse is coming to the Fort Steuben Mall, but it's not slated to open now until May 2014.
Construction already has begun at the site, located between Aspen Dental and Eat'n Park.
"It's going to seat about 250 people," Texas Roadhouse consultant Elise Goldstein said. "We chose that area because we like the demographics, there's a lot of traffic on that road. and Ohio has been a great state for Texas Roadhouse, in terms of our other locations."
GROUNDWORK BEGINS — Constructions crews have begun moving dirt at the site of what eventually will be a Texas Roadhouse in Steubenville. The 250-seat restaurant, being constructed at the Fort Steuben Mall, is slated to open in May 2014.
Texas Roadhouse, founded in 1993, has about 384 restaurants in 48 states, plus another in Dubai.
"We open about 25 restaurants a year, and the schedule is always changing," she said.
The Steubenville location originally had been targeted to open next year, but was pushed back a year for training purposes.
Goldstein, though, said they typically hire 175 to 200 workers at a single location.
Texas Roadhouse features "legendary steaks, fall-off-the-bone ribs. ice cold beer, sides made from scratch and all the fresh-baked bread you can eat," Goldstein said, adding that diners surveyed by Nation's Restaurant News' scored the chain as the nation's top steakhouse, and also rated it tops in terms of food quality, value and menu variety. In-house meat cutters hand cut steaks on a daily basis, each of them processing about $1 million worth of meat in an average year.
