Arrest made after

house burglarized

STEUBENVILLE - James Shannon, 26, no fixed address, was arrested by City Police Thursday after he was seen climbing out of a house window at 1401 State St.

The officer was checking to see if the house was secure and saw Shannon climbing out a window. Shannon was told to stop but took off running across the yard. An officer said he was caught after a short chase.

Shannon was taken to the county jail, and an officer found a pipe cutting tool in the back seat of the cruiser.

Shannon was charged with breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools and obstruction of official business. He was being held on a $10,000 bond.

The house was the same residence that was raided by the county drug task force on Tuesday.

Firefighters called

to trailer fire

WELLSBURG - Firefighters from the Bethany Pike, McKinleyville and Beech Bottom departments were called to extinguish a fire at a vacant trailer on Red Fox Lane off state Route 67 at about 3:20 a.m. today.

No other information was available early today.

to discuss finances

MINGO JUNCTION - Village Council is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. today at the Municipal Building to discuss finances.

Salvation Army

taking applications

STEUBENVILLE - The Salvation Army, 332 N. Fourth St. will be taking applications for families in need at Christmas.

Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Nov. 5-8.

Applicants should call for an appointment or field questions to (740) 282-5121.

Those applying for the first time to the Salvation Army must provide the following: photo identification, a Social Security number for everyone in the household, proof of income, proof of expense, a current address and phone number.

Those who are already clients only need to bring photo identification.

United Way

event canceled

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Bubbles for Baubles event next week to benefit the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley has been canceled.

The event had been slated for Thursday. It hasn't been rescheduled at this time.
