Follansbee 20th Century Club meets Friday at Presbyterian

FOLLANSBEE - Members of the GFWC-WV Follansbee 20th Century Club will meet Friday at 6:30 pm at Follansbee Presbyterian Church.

Representatives of C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc. will attend.

Members should contact treasurer Sally DiGiacinto to pay dues for 2012-2013.

Members will observe Make a Difference Day by donating to a local afterschool program. Members should bring pre-packaged non-perishable snacks and bottled water donations but no candy.

Members can participate in the 1st District President's Special Project, Fighting Hunger, by bringing in a non-perishable food item.

Brooke County offers screenings

WELLSBURG - Brooke County Schools will offer free developmental screenings for Brooke County children, ages 3-5 and not currently enrolled in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the board of education office at 1201 Pleasant Ave.

Screenings will include cognitive development, speech, motor skills, vision, hearing, height and weight.

Class to feature harvest foods

WELLSBURG - Nora Bell will present a cooking class featuring harvest foods at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brooke County Public Library.

Gym to offer free demonstration

FOLLANSBEE - Cindy's Fusion Fitness at 971 Main St. will offer a free demonstration on the proper way to use low-cost fitness equipment, usually available for $15 or less at department store chains, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Cindy Petri, the business' owner; and her staff will show attendees how to use the proper form to reduce the risk of injury while exercising.

Free blood pressure and body mass index readings also will be offered.

Church to hold pasta dinner

COLLIERS - Olde St. John's Episcopal Church, at Eldersville and St. John's roads, will hold a spaghetti dinner from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The cost is $7.50, which includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and drink. Take-out is available.

Knights to hold spaghetti dinner

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Knights of Columbus will hold a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Center.

The cost is $7 per person, which children under 7 admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door.

Altar Society holding breakfast

AVELLA, Pa. - The St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Altar Society will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the hall located at 176 Cross Creek Road. Tickets are $6 for adults, $2 for children. Take-out is available.
