To the editor:
Please, vote "yes" for the Edison Local School District levy.
As a 2012 graduate of Edison High School, I can't even imagine having gone to a different high school. The staff, administrators and students are truly some of the greatest people to know. They are supportive in the classroom, at extracurricular activities and athletic events. Edison has not only made me a better person by exposing me to such great people, but also has given me a jump start into my collegiate career.
EHS and Eastern Gateway Community College have established a partnership where students can receive college credit for certain classes without ever having to leave the EHS campus. Beginning my junior year at EHS, I enrolled in every EGCC class offered, and as I walked out of there after graduation, I had acquired 51 college credits - 60 credits would have made me a junior in college. All of these credits were expense free. Because of the partnership between EGCC and Edison, I will be able to graduate from Ashland early and save thousands of dollars.
This is all thanks to Edison High School. I had an extremely positive, beneficial and uplifting experience at Edison, and I can only hope that future generations will be able to experience the same. By voting "for" the levy, you can help keep this school of excellence with distinction up and running and give kids a memorable chapter in their lives, as I had in mine.
Many people look at the levy from the perspective of how their taxes will be raised, and they will have to pay more money each month, which is understandable. However, we need to keep in mind that Edison's millage is lower than the majority of schools in the area. The kids of Edison deserve to have continuing opportunities, don't you agree? The first step is to vote "yes" on the Edison Local School District levy.
